 "Grandmother Welch and Mary Jenkins went to visit Bass Mintons grandmother who was ill with cancer ( Aunt Mae recalls it to be TB ) and desired some fish to eat. On the way they saw a fish hemmed in the creek in a small area of water. They got down & caught the Red eye fish bare handed & took to the ill lady."
 "Another interesting story of truth occured when grandmother had a tiny baby ( Lucy ) and a man came and requested something to eat. Grandmother Welch told him she couldn't cook anything as she had no wood cut for fuel. All the rest were away working. The man cut the wood and Grandmother fried meat & cornbread for him. He got up and left money, exactly to the penny enough to cover a need they had ( taxes ) and no one in the ( Jesse Hollar ) valley saw the man. He was dressed in a suit and Grandmother believed him to be an angel."
 Aunt Mae says she remembers when this happened. They had been hoeing corn and came to the house to dinner and grandmother told them about the man."
