Note: Samuel Welsh Samuel was born in Grayson Co, VA, ca 1800, the fifth of nine children of John and Leah. Samuel married Ursula Porter, daughter of Samuel E. Porter and Ursula Sublett probably sometime before 1822 when their first child Andrew William, was born. Ursula Sublett was a descendent of Abraham Soblet who was among the French Huguenots that landed on Virginia soil 1700 and moved into an area west of Richmond, VA called Manikintown. Much is written about the Soblet/Sublett family. In particularly, a book by Dr. Cameron Allen entitled, "The Soblett (Sublet) Family of Manakintown, King William Parish, Virginia", follows the family from the 1600s through their movement west. Samuel E. Porter was son of Col. Andrew Porter and Margaret Jane Ewing, both descendants of immigrants from Ireland and Scotland. The Porter/Ewing family have deep family ties with each other that go back to Ireland. Samuel and his brother Daniel moved to Scott Co. Ancestral File records show Samuel and Ursulas seventh child, Nancy was born in Grayson Co ca 1839. Their next child Samuel E. Welsh was born in Nicklesville, Scott Co, in 1842. This would put Samuel and his family members that accompanied him to Scott Co there after 1839 and before 1842. Little public records exist in Scott Co Courthouse in regard to Samuel. Pat Surface who is probably the expert on the Welsh family has spent time searching there for info on Samuel but to no avail. Other records may exist, but at this time I dont know of them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.
