a. Note:   A goldfields in 1849. They returned with enough gold to ease the privations they had had previously. Nearly everyone is noted by initials and not names. 11 people live on this farm, including Peter, the Irish farm hand. It looks as though 3 households are living side by side. Those 3 households are headed by D.R. Hodges with wife "Mary," and 2 daughters, Susan C. and Mary E.; Calloway Hodges (single); and by Catherine (though Jesse "Monroe" is still living - so perhaps he's debilitated) with daughter Jane (not living with her eventual husband yet), sons Harrison and Lewis "Monroe," and daughter Elizabeth.
