Notes
a. Note:   Based on the age of Charles in 1850, he is likely the same Charles L. Cru mp found in the 1840 Census for NC, with wife age 30-40, seven male childr en and three female children. Not all of these children are known to Fr ed E. Crump, Sr., of South Carolina, who did part of the research, b ut it appers that charles went to Tennessee where some of his children we re born, then to Alabama, and then to Texas c. 1844, where Thomas was bor n. He then moved back into Louisiana, where Cynthia was born. Azchariah a nd Sidney may be cheldren of Charles. More wrok need to be done on this pa rt of his life.
Livint with Charles L. and Cynthia and their seven children at home in 18 50 was George Barnhill, 20, M W, Laborer, and born in TN. It is assumed th at George was a brother to Cynthia.
The 1860 US Census lists Charles as "C.D.", but pretty clearly has to be o ur Charles L. Apparently he died not long after 1860. But he did acquire 3 20.76 acres in Natchitoches Parish, LA, on January 3, 1860. It appears th at this is the same land about one mile west of Marthaville, LA, where t he scirmish occurred during the Red River Campaign of the Civil War. It w as called the "Battle of Crump's Hill" in war records, and there is a muse um on the property today with artifacts from that scirmish.
