Notes
a. Note:   On May 27, 1852, William Crump married Louisiana Comelandier (various spel lings are seen, but tumbstones in Sabine Parish spell it this way). The na me is recorded as Willis instead of William in the Sabine Marriage Record s, but "Willis" is not mentioned in any other Sabine Parish record. In t he 1860 Natchitoches Parsh Census there is a "Wm" Crump married to Louisia na, with children Lawrence 7, Vernetty 4, and Felix 2. In 1880 Sabine Pari sh Daniel has Felix 20, as "grandson". This "Wm" must be the same as the h usband of Louiaiana Momelandier.
Carl Dilbeck has William, son of Charles L Crump married to Adoline, nie ce of William Barnhill, Jr., and Cynthia Hodge. It could be that Adoline d id before the 1850 Census. It appears that this William and Adoline were m arried in McNairy Co., TN. Time, place, and other family members sugges ts that this is the son of Charles L. Crump.
Research by Tom A. Crump shows a John William Crump in Fort Bend Co, T X, in 1860, with his wife Faithey, age 34, born in NC, but it appears th at this John William was also there in 1850. William Crump may have perish ed during the Civil Wr. Faithey was listed in the 1870 Census of Ft. Be nd Co., TX, 45, and living alone, but significantly, only a few househol ds from Daniel D. Crump, son of Charles L. Crump. Sinde this John "Willia m" was in Ft. Bend in 1850 suggests he could not be the William in the hou sehold of Charles in Natchiotches in 1850, but not impossible dependi ng on the date of the enumeration.
William and Louisiana appear in the 1860 Natchitoches Census, but in 18 70 Lawwrence adn Felix ae in the household of Louisiana's parents in Sabi ne Parish. It is not known whether Louisiana died and the William Crump w ho married Catherine Thompson on April 1, 1866 is the same William. In eit her case, William does not show up again in the Census in Louisiana aft er 1860.
In 1900, Faithey P. Crump, age 75, is still in Ft. Bend County, TX. Signif icantly, John C. Barnhill, nephew, age 12 and born in 1888 in Tex as is in her household. the 1910 Census shows "Parthia" P. Crump, age 8 6, in the household of George W. McKashla. this is probably Faithey. It wo uld appear that although Faithey's husband, William, may not have been a s on of Charles, he was probably a nephew or some other relation.
Based on the book, "History of Sabine Parish, Louisiana" by John G. Belisl e, The Sabine Banner Press, 1912, p. 74, a William Crump was an early Pion eer of "The Neutral Strip" between Louisiana and Texas in 1858 which inclu ded the present day Sabine Parish. Was William the son of Charles L.?. Th is "Neutral Strip" had been a disputed area between Spain and the US for y ears. It is unclear whether this William is the same as teh one in the Hou sehold of Charles L. in 1850, but would appear to be except for the age di fference.
It should be noted that there was a William L. Crump who served in the Con federate Army in the War of the Rebellion (Civil War) in the same unit wi th Samuel D. Crump. It is very possible that the William L. was teh old er brother of Samuel D. Crump.
A William Crump acquired 120.3 acres of land in Natchitoches Parish on Ju ne 1, 1860.
