Note: There is some confilct with the 1870 Census where we find Silas 42, marri ed to Jane 50. The 15 year old Isabella and 12 year old Mary are not list ed for 1860! My best explanations is that one of the girls had two names l ike Catherine Isabella. Not sure which girls are affected, if any. On April 2, 1864, there was a battle, or skirmish, on Silas' property (org inally owned by his father Charles). called "The Batle of Crump's Hill". T he battle was fought just west of the cemetery, up the hill from where t he Crumps lived. It tool place on Saturday afternoon about two o'clock, Ap ril 2, 1864. this is taken from "The TYown of Marthaville and Surroundi ng Community", pp. 47-52. by Thomas F. Jennings of Marthaville, and writt en Novembr 13, 1969. the book may be found as Reference Number 83669 in t he Natchitoches Public Library (Genealogy Section in the Old Courthouse), In the town of Natchitoches, LA. It should be noted that Silas M. Crump was a Confederate Soldier with t he 12th Louisiana Infantry during the Civil Way. He apparently served wi th his brother William L. Crump in this unit. A. B. Crump, who may have be en a younger brother served with another unit, as mentioned in the notes f or him. This Silas was Constable in Mathaville in 1881, and on January 3, 1860, ac uqired 80.13 acres of property in Natchitoches Parish. He is buried at Mar thaville Cemetery, Natchiotches Parish LA, (unmarked).
