a. Note:   Pleas Seeley was born to Virginia Seeley (Mary? Virginia) out of wedlock. Family sources (Louise Koehler Seeley repeating info from Eliz. Martin Seeley, wife of Pleas) say that Virginia was working as a domestic in the home of a well to do farmer in the neighborhood and was apparently seduced or raped by the son of the farm owner. Rumor and gossip from contemporary neighbors and relatives say the father of Pleas was a John Young, but no further identification has been made. Census data confirm that Virginia was only 12 years of age when Pleas was born, unless she gave a false age to the census taker. At the time that census was taken she was married to John S. Wyatt and had additional children. (Additional data from ECS written at a different time) Pleasant Davis Seeley (Plez), was the son of Virginia Seeley, who according to census records gave birth to him when she was 12 years of age. Family person to person information holds that she was seduced (raped?) by the son of a family for whom she was performing domestic work. A number of different individuals in Laurel and Clay counties, were heard, by me, to say "John (or Johnny) Young was his (Pleasant's) daddy, wasn't he?" This was during the period when I was practicing in Laurel county between 1951 and 1975. I was never able to further identify John Young, consequently this must be taken as hearsay.
