a. Note:   John Americus Flowers was born December 8, 1878 in Rutherford, Gibson County, Tennessee. His parents are Isaac Henry Flowers and Martha Crenshaw.
  John can be found in the Census of 1880 in Gibson County, Tennessee - District 9. He is two years old.
  John left Tennessee about 1905 and settled in Newport, Rhode Island where he married Johanna O'Brien on September 10, 1907. They had three children - Eleanor, Henry, and Mary.
  John worked as an employee of the Public Works Department in Newport.
  John is buried in St. Columba's Cemetery in Newport, Rhode Island. His headstone states that he was born in 1881. This has to be a mistake because there is no other evidence to support this. Everything points to his birth occurring in 1878.
