Record of sealing of wife to husband says Charlotte was of West Bromwich, Warwick, England. Family tradition has Charlotte's name as Charlotte Katherine Broomhead or Melland. Her natural father was Stephen Melland but Stephen and Ann, her mother were never married and she took her mother's maiden name.
