Notes
a. Note:   Unfortunately, this is the Robert we know the least about. We do not know when he was born or when he died, or where. We know he was married to Jane Lowder Lazonby, daughter of Charles Lowder and Joane Unknown, and widow of John Lazonby, on May 28, 1731, and can only speculate that he was born between about 1702 and 1710 (his parents married by 1702, and he married 1731). He is said to have moved with relatives (who?) to that part of Halifax County which became Pittsylvania County, where he was listed as a tithable in 1767 (having purchased 400 acres on Green Creek on May 30, 1767), so he was still alive by that date.
According to Fred E. Crump, Sr. a Robert Crump is found in Halifax Co., VA in 1754 and later in 1767 with Robert Jr. and William Crump in 1768. The information about 1767 and 1768 is from a sworn statement by Sarah Hannah Riggs, wife of Silas Crump, son of Robert Crump who married Mary Parr, that Robert Jr. and William were brothers. This is shown in Dorman as well. This would not be inconsistant with Robert who married Jane Lowder being son of Robert who married Elizabeth Tydings, nor would it be inconsistant with Robert who married Jane being father to Robert who married Mary Parr. It would also explain why Fred finds "another" Robert there (besides the one who married Mary in Pittsylvania as late as 1768.
Also somewhat confusing is that there are two William Crumps (yes, two Williams again) in Fairfax Co., VA in the 1782 and 1785 Census. One of them should be the son of Robert and Jane, the other is as yet unidentified. Dorman identifies William, son of Robert, as being granted 340 acres on beaver Island Creek in Guilford Co., NC, on Oct 14, 1783, adding to the confusion about the dates.
