a. Note:   After the death of his father in 1863 and his mother in 1864, while he was still serving with the 136th Ilinois Inf. co. K, Ziba joined the
 regular army serving in the 6th US Cavalry co. G as a sargeant. He
 enlisted on his birthday, August 14, 1865. According to a excerpts of an
 1896 publication that chronicled the 6th US cavalry, it was dispatched in
 October 1865 to New Orleans, La., and from there to its new headquarters
 in Austin, Texas. Many soldiers were assassinated during this time and
 casualties were suffered fighting Indians and maurauding outlaw bands
 comprised mostly of former civil war soldiers from both north and south.
 In 1867 a decision was made to redeploy the 6th and plans were made to
 divide the regiment among a series of forts and towns in north Texas.
 Some of those fort and towns included Fort Richardson, Fort Belknap, Fort
 Griffin, Sherman, Tx., and Sulphur Springs Tx.. This plan was officially
 enacted upon in October of 1868, a few months after Ziba mustered out in
 August of 1868.
