Note: From "Somerset Past" a History and Genealogy of Somerset County, Pennsylvania Vol III #3, Page 13 Charles and Conrad Moots are named in a suit in Somerset County, Pennsylvania at the June Term in 1798. They were brought to court by Ashman Ridgely in a Civil Suit - likely some sort of monetary claim. (No further information on this case - it is significant only because it shows that they were in Pennsylvania in the summer of 1798) Moots brothers who came to Champaign and Logan Counties in Ohio were supposedly from Lancaster PA Lancaster, PA was originally settled in 1742, In 1730 it became a city and in 1818 it became the county seat. O.L. Baskin "History of Logan County and Ohio" 1880 Peg 493 Charles came first to Monroe Township prior to the War of 1812. He and his wagon team were there for Hull's surrender at Detroit. Conrad came second about 1813. George came third in the Spring of 1815. October 20, 1815 - Charles Moots, Sr. and Annala, his wife, Champaign County, OH - names on a land deed - Sr. was used in the signature. Annala just marked an "X" "Roster of Ohio Soldiers in War of 1812" Ross County Captain David Elliot's Co. lists a Charles Moots who served between July 28 and August 17, 1813. No Jr. or Sr. was used in name. Sr. would have been 49 years old, Jr. about 20. Memoirs of the Miami Valley - Volume One The Story of Logan County, The Day of the Settler, County Seat (page 169) THE STORY OF LOGAN COUNTY Among the candidates for election were Daniel McKinnon, for Sheriff; Solomon McCulloch, for commissioner, and William Powell, for coroner. Other names entered in the county records previous to 1812, include the Inskeep, Reames, Garwoods, Euans, Outlands, *Newells, *Blacks, Ballingers, Curls, *Moots, *Randalls, and Dr. John Elbert, who came in 1809. When peace was permanently established after the war of 1812, immigration became so rapid that it is only possible to mention those who became most prominent in the (page 183) development of the country and the building of towns and industries. Note: Deed Volume B, Page 384 - 1815 October 20, 1815 - Charles Moots, Sr. and Annala his wife, Champaign County, Ohio Names appear on land deed - Sr. is used in Charles Moots' signature. 800 Acres of Land in Champaign Co. on the Waters of Mad River is purchased from Thomas and Eleanor Worthington of Ross County, OH for the sum of $458 current money of the United States of America. Note: Deed Volume B, Page 445 - 1815 October 20, 1815 - Charles Moots, Sr's and Annala names appear on a deed of sale of a portion of the 800 Acres of Land in Champaign Co. on the Waters of Mad River mentioned above. The sale is for the sale of 38-1/4 Acres for the sum of $153 to Robert Smith of Champaign County, Ohio.
