Notes
a. Note:   re. She said her mother had nearly been killed while walking home from the bread factory where she worked nights and some men jumped her, stole the bread and cut her up, killing the twins she was carrying. She said her mother was never right after that. It's not known exactly when Josie was committed to the mental hospital, but Ivy remembers seeing her mother coming to the gates of the orphanage to try to see her children but was not allowed to. She said the children were hustled into the building when that happened and she remembers her mother crying because she couldn't see her children.
In the Oklahoma City directories, Josie and Marvin are listed in years 1932, 1933, 1936, and 1937. Then in 1940 Mrs. Josie Overton is listed alone as residing at 2500 W. Grand Avenue in Oklahoma City. Then in 1942 Marvin and Josie are listed as living at 2500 W. Grand Avenue again. There is no more mention of Josie Moore after that -- in 1944 J. M. Overton is listed as living alone and working as a dishwasher at the Oklahoma Biltmore Hotel in Oklahoma City. On Josie's death certificate, it states information was taken from hospital records and that Josie was "separated".
There is a marriage certificate in Oklahoma County where J. M. Overton married Mrs. Nancy Hamlin in 1949. Then in 1955 J. M. Overton is listed as living with his wife Nancy at 2621 W. Main Avenue, Oklahoma City.
According to Josie Overton's death certificate (Cleveland County, Oklahoma, State File No. 008046) she died in the Central State Griffin Memorial Hospital, Norman, Oklahoma (Cleveland County) and had been under that doctor's care from August 23, 1944 to June 29, 1954 (date of her death). This only tells how long she had been under this doctor's care, not how long she had been in the hospital. Attempts to obtain her records have thus far been unsuccessful due to the privacy issue. The death certificate states she died of General Debility due to Malnutrition due to Oesophageal Obstruction - lower 1/3 due to neoplasm; other Significant Conditions lists Schizophrenic Reaction - Paranoid Type.
Marriage Record #2002, Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Marriage was performed by Rev. J. T. Early, pastor of Nogales Avenue Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Witnesses were Clarence Barney of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mrs. Rosey Overton of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The wedding took place at a residence at 1010 W. 3rd Street in Tulsa. The marriage license portion states that Jessie Overton was 28 years old and Josie Moore was 18 years old. They are both listed as residents of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
