Notes
a. Note:   k one of us but would hold his own hand over the bottom and hit his own hand. He called this "shock the nit." (In retrospect I think this was a play on the words "knock the shit" as he loved to turn words around like this.) When we would misbehave, he would tell us, "PaPaw's gonna shock the nit." Of course, he never hurt us once..we'd laugh more than we'd ever cry.
He nicknamed every one of his children and grandchildren.
Children: Harrison Theodore Thompson: "Dink:; Francis Elizabeth Thompson: "Tootie"; Anna Mae Thompson: "June Bug", later shortened to "Bug"; Johnnie Beven Thompson: "Dooper"; Cornelius Delaney Thompson: "Pal". As far as Ellen remembers Dink, Tootie and Pal were always called that by everyone who knew them.
Grandchildren (Ellen can't remember them all but here is a list of what she remembers): Kris Williams: "FooFoo Boy"; Teri Williams: "Fatty Dodger"; Joe Williams: "Buck"; Mark Williams: "Buster".
Kathy Thompson: "Dandy"; Ellen Thompson: " Little Gal"; Judy Thompson: "Curly Top"; Brenda Thompson: "Little Gal" same as Ellen; Karen Thompson: "Baby Doll"; Sherry Thompson: "Cricket; Pam Thompson: "Tiny"; John Perry Thompson: "Perrywinkle"; Linda Thompson: "Little Princess".
Curt signed Ellen's high school year book in 1967 with the following prose: "When in my silent grave I sleep, and bending willows o'er me weep, it is then, Dear Ellen, and not B4, that I will think of you no more." He signed it "Grandpa (Papaw) Curtis Thompson." Ellen remembers he would frequently begin spouting verse such as that.
Ellen's was the only church wedding he ever attended -- he always said the church roof would fall down if he stepped into a church. But he did come to Ellen's wedding on a hot Arizona August day. Ellen remembers hearing him grumble during the wedding service "damn! it's hot in here." Seems the swamp cooler cooling the church was blowing out the candles, so the cooler had been turned off by one of the ushers.
Note:   Ellen remembers her PaPaw as being very loving toward his grandchildren. He always had peppermint candy or bubble gum in his shirt pocket to give them when he came over. He loved to pretend to span
