Note: roe County. Winthrope was the father of 12 (or 13) children. After Laura's death, he married Sarah McQuatters Hursh, a widow with four children. When Winthrop married Sarah, the Bennett children appear to have been scattered about the county, many of them living with reletives. Winthrop Bennett is a shadowy figure even though we've known his name for decades. He has been found in census and land records. Census records show him as a peddler and farmer. Land records show he was involved in real estate transactions. But there is really nothing about the personality and character of the man. !DEEDS: January 13 1838: Winthrop and Laura Bennett of Ticonderoga sell 1/2 acre "being the northwest corner of the Zebulon Bennett farm" for $600.
