Note: tate settlement after James McQuatters death helps to establish the names of Sarah's parents (Monroe County Deeds; Book 122; p. 396; FHL film 825,873). Sarah's first marriage was published in a Rochester newspaper, "J. Hursh married Sarah McQuertio Sept 15, 1831." A researcher hired by Lindy Randall ___ located that information. It is not known what happened to Sarah's first husband, John Hursh. She married a second time to Winthrop Bennett, a widower with several children. Few of his children seem to have lived with their father after his marriage to Sarah. BIRTH: Kirkcubbin Presbyterian Church; List of Baptisms, 1778-. "Sarah Ann, dau of James McQuatters of Ballymullen 16 Jly 1810." I am not positive that this is Sarah McQuatters Hursh Bennett, but it could be. Bennett !DEEDS: 1851: Winthrop and Sarah borrow money from John Gormly of Clarkson. !DEEDS: 1853: Winthrop Bennett of Clarkson buys 60 acres in Sweden (Lot 2, section 6) from Staius and Harriet Buntingame for $2100. He assumes the mortgage made 7 Feb 1853 between Buntingame and Jeremiah Dimick and Chauncy Y. White. !DEEDS: 1854: McQuarters Estate Settlement !DEEDS: 1854: Sarah takes out mortgage from Albert Curtis. !DEEDS: 1854: Sarah of Sweden, buys Lot #17 and part of Lot #17 in Section A of the Manhattan Meadows Tract in Rochester from Albert Curtis for $975. !DEEDS: 31 August 1854: Winthrop and Sarah sell land to Major A. Marshall, neighbor, for $1.00. CENSUS: New York State, 1855, Monroe county NY Sweden 199/209 "Wintrhop Bennett age 51, md, res 4 yrs, farmer, b. Washington Co, NY"; "Sarah Bennett age 40, wife, res 4 yrs, b. Ireland"; also Samuel Y age 19; Charles age 13, Laura age 10, Winthrop age 4; Rebecca age 2. Winthrop owned 50 acres of improved ground and 10 unimproved. He had 14 acres plowed, 6 fallow, 8 acres plowed the year previous, and 5 acres of meadow. He had harvested 10 tons of hap and 2 bushels of grass seed. 15 acres of winter wheat had yielded 50 bushel. 6 acres of oats gave him 40 bushels. 3 acres of barley had given 70 bushels. He had 20 sheep; had sold $10 worth of eggs. His 4 acres of corn yielded 130 bushels. 1 acre of potatoes had given 50 bushels. He had harvested 200 bushels of apples. He owned cattle, 1 under 1 year and 2 over. He had 2 milk cows and had produced 250 pounds of butter. He had 1 horse and 3 pigs. !DEEDS: 13 June 1855 Winthrop and Sarah sell 60 acres of land in Sweden (north part of lot 2, section 6 of township 3 of the Triangular tract) to Edwin Taylor of Rochester for $1000.00 CENSUS: United States, 1860, Monroe NY Ogden 818/840 (Winthrop Bennett household) "Sarah Bennett age 46, b. Ireland" OTHER: 3 July 1863: Henry Hursh was wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg. He was on furlough from October 30th to November 7th, during which time he visited his mother, Sarah McQuatters Hursh Bennett in West Brighton. !DEEDS: 1864, Sarah of Brighton bought the land back from the Marshalls for $1.00. CENSUS: New York State, 1865 Monroe NY Brighton 130/140 Sarah Benett age 50, widow, md twice, 6 children; Elizabeth Hursh age 18, child !DEEDS: 1867, Sarah Bennett of Brighton sells land on highway to Parma to L. C. Ward, Joel P. Mullines, and Allen Marshall for $1,062.50 also mortgage held by John A Murray. She also held the mortgage. OTHER: November: Frankie arrived in Echo, Utah with A. J. Phelps on the first train going that far.
