a. Note:   RESEARCH NOTES: The RLDS Church Records for the Provo Branch report Mary Ann's birth date as 3 May 1867. The LDS Church records for Grandview Ward say she was born May 2, 1869. That is the birth date given in her obituary. <I>Carter Pioneers of Provo Utah</I> claims she was born May 2, 1870. She was born about the same time that her older sister, Sarah Elizabeth, was married and her nephew, John Chesley, was almost as old as she was. When she was eight, she would watch her younger brother, Lafayette, while her mother walked to Provo to work. Her marriage to John Emmons is in the Utah County Marriage Licenses. She was 30 years old at the time. She and John lived with her mother so for the rest of her life her home was home to her unmarried brothers. Mary Ann's death is recorded in Provo Cemetery Rocords and on her Death Certificate.
