a. Note:   RESEARCH NOTES: John's birth can be found in both LDS and RLDS sources. He appears to have met Sarah when his father's family was living in Nephi or Manti. Early marriages are hard to verify as there seem to have been no civil records kept. Family tradition places their marriage in Manti. After their marriage they settled in southern Utah near her father's family where they lived for a time before joining the Carter family in the Provo area. A history of John written by their daughter, Amanda Carter Richins, is kept by the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. John's death is recorded in the Provo Cemetery Sexton's Records.
