Notes
a. Note:   RESEARCH NOTES: Harrison's birth is recorded in LDS Church records. The Provo 3rd Ward Baptisms state he was born in 'Potawamy, Iowa' which would be Pottawattamie County where Winter Quarters was. Several references to Harrison place his birth at Pisgan, However, Harrison's father married his second wife, Sophia Sweat, in Winter Quarters in 1848 which strongly suggests the family had left Pisgah before that time. Harrison's birth and marriage are in Carter Pioneers of Provo Utah. One history of Utah County mentions that the Provo Police Chief was shot by a man named Harrison Carter. And Harrison Carter is in the Salt Lake Deth Records. That record, which knows nothing of his birth or family, reports the day which he died of gun shot wounds in the St Mark's hospital in Salt Lake City. A manuscript titled "A Carter Family History" by Helen S. Carter was found in the possession of Osburn Carter in ORem. This record reports that John and Elizabeth's son Hrrison was drawn into discussion with a drunken sheriff in a saloon. In the insuing argument Harrison shot the sherrif and fled across Utah Lake. There he herded sheep until a cousin of his Aunt Matilda convinced hm to return and stand trial. He was given a jail term where his behavior earned some trunt and responsibility. While trying to quell a jail bread he was caught in the cross fire and killed.
