Note: RESEARCH NOTES: Jonathan and Martha were both part of the westward movement of the Latter-Day Saint Church. Their marriage probably took place in Winter Quarters or one of the other Mormon settlements in Pottawattomie County. They crossed the plains in 1852 with the 5th company under Captain John Tidwell. The Crossing the Plains Index indicates that there were 5 adults and 2 children in Jonathan McKee's group. Birth records for both Martha and Jonathan can be found in the Spanish Fork Ward. They were in Utah just over 10 years before their return to Iowa. In History of Harrison County Iowa can be found information about the McKee's move to Washington Township from Pottawattomie County in 1872. In 1889 Jonathan and Martha moved from 'Section 50' to Union Township, both are in Harrison County. Jonathan is buried in the Chambers Cemetery as photos of the Chambers Cemetery possted on RootsWeb indicate. A record of his death can also be found in the WPA Graves Registration Project.
