Note: RESEARCH NOTES: Aurilla is named as one of Benjamin Sweat's daughters in the history of Henry Sweat published in <I>Bureau, Marshall, Putnam and Stark Co</I>. She married John Crawford after he returned from fighting in the Civil War. Their marriage is recorded in Knox County Marriages. According to John's obituary the young couple started west in a prairie schooner in 1866. For eight years they lived in Nebraska. John taught school for several years while they were there. In 1874 they moved to California where John would eventually own a mercantile business. Aurilla's obituary was publisned in the Arcata Union on January 16, 1930 on the front page. Peace Gardiner, a researcher in Humboldt County, California supplied me with many obituaries and other information regarding the family of John and Aurilla Crawford.
