a. Note:   RESEARCH NOTES: Mary went to Nebraska first as a school teacher. Her sisters both made their homes in Cass County in 1866. Mary undoubtedly made the move then or within a couple of years of that time. She became acquainted with Paul Rager when he became one of her students. Paul and Mary's marriage was published in the Nebraska Herald on Sept 15, 1871. They raised seven children in Cass County and also buried two infants there. In their later years, they moved to Dawes County. Mary died at the home of her daughter Edna Winget. Her Death Certificate is on file in the State of Nebraska; Cass County; #H5165 and her obituary was published May 12, 1937. Two county histories help to complete the picture of Mary's life and her family. <I>Bureau, Marshall, Putnam and Stark Counties</I> contains a biography of Mary's brother, Henry Sweat. A family history of the Rager family can be found in <I>History of Cass County Nebraska</I>. Many thanks to Norma Paul for her numerous contributions to research on this entire family.
