a. Note:   Joseph is mentioned in A Genealogy of Runnels and Reynolds Families in America . . ., by Rev. M. T. Runnels on page 38. However, it is of limited value. Joseph's birth date is given as in other sources, but it places his marriage to Mary Sweat in June of 1842. The family appears on the 1840 Census in Pike County, Illinois and their oldest child was born in 1835. The death date given for Joseph is Oct 1861 and again there is a problem; his estate was in probate in 1858. One other piece of information claims Joseph had seven children which is interesting in light of the 1900 census which reports Mary Ann had had twelve, although six of them appear to have died as infants or young children. Joseph's death date given here is from the Pike County Probate records.
