Notes
a. Note:   RESEARCH NOTES: The marriage of Joseph W Kesterson and Emily E Carlton was recorded in Pike County. They raised their 8 children in Newburg township in Pike county Illinois. The 1880 census raises several questions about this family and it seems highly likely that there are errors in the census. Later census records show grandchildren being raised by Joseph and Emily. Three of her children died before 1919 when Emily passed away. Her will lists the following children: Delmer Kesterson of Pittsfield, Joseph F Kesterson of Pittsfield, Albert Kesterson of Pittsfield, Lora Padkins of St. Louis, Missouri, and Arvie (Midge) Muckenstern of Burlington, Iowa. She was buried beside her husband in Sunny Hill Cemetery.
