Notes
a. Note:   H109
Note:   According to the 1860 Federal Census, James is about two years old and he was born in Loudoun, Va. His siblings are Samuel and Sarah E. (elizabeth?].
The 1870 Federal Census shows James W. living at home with his parents William and Susan Horseman. He is 12 years old and "at-home." He was born in Virginia. His siblings are Samuel, Elizabeth and John.
The 1880 Federal Census states that James was 22 years old and lived in his father's home. His occupation is "Blacksmith" - just like his father. He is listed as single.
According to the Marriage Records at Loudoun County Courthouse, James was 26 years old when he married Susan J. Muse, who was 18. Both were single. It was noted that James was born in Fairfax, Virginia and Susan in Loudoun. James' parents are William H. and Susan J. Horseman. James was a blacksmith. They were married by a Samuel Brown.
According to the 1900 Federal Census, James W. Horseman was the head of household with a wife, Susan J., and three children, Mary, age 13; Henry, age 11, and Edna E., age 8. He was born in Virginia in March 1858. He was a farmer and rented his property. He could read, write, and speak English. His mother and father were born in Virginia. He had been married 15 years at the time of the Census, and was 42 years old.
There was one boarder living in the house in 1900, a Martha Kendrick, born November 1841, 58 years old, widowed, born in Virginia. She could read, write, and speak English. [note: she may be a relative]
The 1910 Federal Census shows James as head of household, living with his wife Susan J., his son James B. (who is showing up for the first time, even though he would have been 14 during the 1900 Census], his son Henry M., his daughter Linnie (which is assumed is Linda] and a "boarder" John Muse. We speculate that John Muse is an uncle to Susan J. Muse, but we must find out! James is listed as being 52 years old, and married for 26 years. He owns his farm property and a blacksmith shop. The Census form indicates they live in the Ryan area.
According to the 1920 Federal Census, James is living with wife "Susie J."; no children listed. He owns his home which is free of mortgage. James is 62 and Susie is 56. James is a laborer on a farm. They live next to Henry M. Horseman.
According to the records at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, Virginia, James was born December 26, 1858 (different from the March 1858 according to 1900 Census, but similar to December 16, 1857 of Virginia birth index.) He died February 20, 1921 (his father died same day in 1907!) at age 63, of a "general breakdown". He is buried in Lot 146, Site 9.
