Note: H110
Note: According to the Virginia Births Index, Henry was born October 12, 1887 in Loudoun County, Virginia. [note, draft card says 1888] According to 1900 Census Henry was born in Virginia in January 1889. He was 11 years old, attended school, and could read and write, and spoke English. The 1910 Federal Census shows Henry living with his parents James and Susan. He is 22 years old and single. He is a laborer at a saw mill. He was unemployed no weeks during 1909. According to the 1920 Federal Census, Henry is head of household, living with his wife Sarah E., their daughter Edna M. (could not read age), son James W. (could not read age). Henry rents the home; he is 32; Sarah is 25. They are both born in Virginia of Virginian parents. Henry is a farmer on a dairy farm. His status is marked "E" which could mean employer or employee. On the Census page his father is listed after him, so they are close neighbors. According to records of Union Cemetery, Henry was born November 12, 1887, not January 1889. But he is buried with the others in Lot 146, site 11 in a plot owned by William S. Gibbons. Buried next to him is Sara E. Horsman, born May 4, 1893; died June 27, 1982 in Leesburg at 89 years. Perhaps Gibbons is her family. (turns out her last name is Rose; father George W. Rose) 1930 Census online - on index, shows Henry living in Broad run with wife Sarah (36) and children Edna (15), William, 12, Virginia-10; Barjar-8; Bettie-6; Henry-4 note: on draft registration, Henry requested exemption due to wife and child. He was employed "breaking on steam rail road" for Washington Terminal Company and was living in Ryan. He was born in Ashburn. The image online at Ancestry.com shows his signature.
