 (headline) NATIVE OF FAIRFIELD DIES IN COLUMBIA
 (body) David F. Smith, 60, of 1116 Blanding Street, Columbia, died suddenly at 5:30 Sunday afternoon in front of his house as he was preparing to go for a ride. He suffered a heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital but was dead upon arrival.
 Mr. Smith was a native of Fairfield county and had lived in Columbia for 14 years. He had engaged in farming and contracting. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and leaves many friends who will regret to learn of his passing.
 He is survived by his widow, the former Mrs. Jennie Bankhead of Fairfield county; a step son, D.M. Bankhead of Columbia; five brothers, T.E. Smith, C.F. Smith, and W.J. Smith of Fairfield Co., J.W. Smith of Lykesland, and J.H. Smith of Washington, D.C., and one sister, Mrs. R.M. Harris of Akron, Ohio.
 Funeral Services were conducted at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from McCormick's Mortuary by the Rev. T.F. Wallace, assistant pastor of the First Presbyterian church and the Rev. B.H. Franklin, pastor of Longtown Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Longtown Presbyterian church cemetery.

  See 1880 Census Fairfield SC Caldwell Jackson age 1 born 1879 son of Martha Stewart Jackson and husband Willis Jackson. They reside in HH of her parents James and Sarah Stewart and living in same area as D.G. Smith and family. Caldwell Jackson and David F. Smith were lifelong friends and Caldwell Jackson was with David F. Smith the day that he died in Columbia SC Aug 1, 1937.
