SARAH ELIZABETH RAINES SMITH OBITUARY (newspaper and publication date: unknown)
 (headline) Longtown Items
(body) The numerous friends and acquaintances of Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, wife of our esteemed fellow citizen Mr. D.G. Smith will be shocked and filled with feelings of profoundest sorrow when apprised of her death which occurred at the home of her son, Mr. Thos. E. Smith in upper Longtown last Monday morning. Mrs. Smith had been in a declining state of health for quite a long time and though the end came rather suddenly, it was not altogether unexpected. She was about 60 years of age. Mrs. Smith was a consistent member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church, having connected herself with that church a number of years ago. She was held in the highest esteem by everyone who knew her on account of her many amiable traits of character and also by reason of her many christian and ladylike graces.
Besides her husband, the deceased is survived by one daughter and eight sons: Miss Lizzie Smith and Messrs Robert, Thomas, David, Clifford, Jones, Charley and Herbert Smith of Longtown, and Mr. Jas. Smith of Columbia. She is also survived by a sister and brother: Mrs. Mickle of Lee county and Mr. Thomas C. Raines of this section.
Her remains were interred in the cemetery of the Longtown Presbyterian Church Tuesday after appropriate and impressive funeral services conducted by Rev. J.S. Corpening, Pastor of the Ridgeway Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. J. Ellison Jones and Rev. P.H. Moore.
The grief-stricken family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in this sad bereavement.
The following were among those who attended Mrs. Smith's funeral: Mrs. J.A. Stewart, Miss Carrie Stewart, Mrs. Wylie, and Messrs Riley and Ernest Stewart of Columbia, Mr. and Mrs. Jno.
