Note: Moved to Coolidge Kansas with his parents in 1887 from Decatur Ill. He volunteered for the Rough Riders (Spanish American War) at Santa Fe, NM on May 7 1898 along with his brother Robert. He was discharge Sep 15 1898 with the rank of Corporal of Co. G, 1st Reg.,US Cavalry. His records show he was 5' 11 7/8" tall and 33yrs of age. He worked for RR in the shops at Raton NM and was later married while there. In 1900 he was living with in laws at Loveland and worked in a lumber camp 28 miles west of Loveland. He and his brother in law George Haynes hauled lumber to Loveland. He was home steading in Hoyt ,CO by 1906 where his daughter Ruth was born. His wife parents also homesteaded there and his sister Bertha Inman. In 1914 moved to Cabool MO. and Then to Smith Center KS in 1916. He held a night watchman job for the city and later operated a dray business. He served two terms as commander of the VFW in Smith Center.
