  When William Anson was twelve years old the Civil War was started, he saw his friends among the young men of the community march off to war, But it came closer than that for his brother Daniel, a Lieutenant, died in war as result of exposure. When Sherman's army was approaching Bishopville, William Anson and other youths felt it necessary to hide in the woods lest they be captured and taken off by the enrmy.
  23 Sept. 1867 _Robert E. Lee, president of Washington College, Lexington, Va. wrote Wm A Rogers letter of credit for College fees.(see copy ltr)

  1876-Married Annie Maria Anderson, 22 March 1876. Annie Maria was born in Dallas County, Alabama, 01 Oct 1852. She died in 1950 in Spartanburg, S.C. at age 98 Her father was Rev. Anderson, a Presbyterian Minidter and granson of General Robert Andersun of Revolutionary fame. William A. and Annie Maria had seven children William A. was a Methodist minister (Circuit Rider in South Carolina for many years around 1877).
