Note: bie Arnold Rogers When William Anson was twelve years old the Civil War was started, he saw his friends among the young men of the community march off to war, But it came closer than that for his brother Daniel, a Lieutenant, died in war as result of exposure. When Sherman's army was approaching Bishopville, William Anson and other youths felt it necessary to hide in the woods lest they be captured and taken off by the enrmy. 23 Sept. 1867 _Robert E. Lee, president of Washington College, Lexington, Va. wrote Wm A Rogers letter of credit for College fees.(see copy ltr) 1870 Census- William age 21 b. 1849, age 21, attending school, lv home Bishopville, Sumter, S.C. 1876-Married Annie Maria Anderson, 22 March 1876. Annie Maria was born in Dallas County, Alabama, 01 Oct 1852. She died in 1950 in Spartanburg, S.C. at age 98 Her father was Rev. Anderson, a Presbyterian Minidter and granson of General Robert Andersun of Revolutionary fame. William A. and Annie Maria had seven children William A. was a Methodist minister (Circuit Rider in South Carolina for many years around 1877). 1880 Census-William Ansen, age 30, b. 1850 in South Carolina, Minister, Head of Household, living in Johnston, Edgefield, S.C. Married to Annie Marie Rogers. Father & Mother born in S. C. Son Julien age 3 & not shown William age 2, & Carroll Age 11/12. 1900 census-William Ansen, age 50 b. 1849, South Carolina,Orangeburg county(Spartanburg), Clergyman, wife Annie Maria age 47, b. Oct 1852 Alabama, , married 24 yrs,7 children, 6 living, all educated,sons: Julien C age 23, b. Jan 1877 South Carolina,single,Carroll P age 19, b.Dec 1880,single,Frank C. age 16, b.Sept 1883, single,Ralph H age 13, b. Nov 1886, single, Allen L. age 10, b. Nov 1889, daughter Annie M age 7 b. Mar 1893 & adoped daughter Estella Anderson age 26, b. May 1874, single. Rev William Anson Rogers , b. 29 Sep 1849, d. 29 Sep 1906, was buried in Spartanburg, SC.
