a. Note:   Edna started work at a very early age (possibly as young as eight or nine) at Hanes Mill, in Winston-Salem, NC. Her sister, Christina, told the following story in a interview on 10/17/1993 at age 92 at the home of her niece, Betty Frye Stoltz, in Walkertown:
  "Edna complained to her family that someone had taken her lunch at work. Her father overheard her complaint. He built a cabinet on legs and took it to the Mill in a wheelbarrow for Edna to keep her lunch in."
  She married her husband after the Christmas entertainment at church. Married by Rev. George W. Lee of Lee Memorial Presbyterian Church.
