Notes
a. Note:   [William1.FTW]
Dr. Algernon Speer purchased first land in Florida in 1843; probably didn't bring family down (from Monroe Co, Ga) until late 1849 or early 1850-in 1850 census Orange Co, Fla. His orange grove (in Fla), "The Speer Grove" was up until the time of the great Fla freeze, the most famous grove in Fla. After his death, it was managed by his father-in-law Arthur Ginn. DAR monument at site of grove.
Died in boat accident in 1857 (YOb) See YOo for signature of 12 June 1843
See YT for a great tale of Indian attack on the family. The unsigned Andrea Collection letter mentions that Dr. Sidney Speer was the first settler (i.e. the first Speer settler?) in Florida.
