1909 Jun 17 - Jacob Bolin and Wife - The western fever early began to worry the Bolin Family, and in 1859 he made a trip overland to Pikes Peak, taking out a load of provisions. Again in 1864 he with his wife and three children started to California driving all the way, his wife driving one team. Not liking that country, in 1866 they came back across the plains in the same way, Mrs. Bolin driving a team and carrying a child only six months old. They remained in Iowa until 1880 when they came to Decatur county and have been here ever since. Several times crops were so poor in this country that Mr. Bolin went to Colorado and made railroad ties to get money for the family to live on. Mr. and Mrs. Bolin have raised a family of eleven children and have raised two grandchildren. They are perhaps as strong a couple as ever came to this county. They have resided on a farm about twelve miles southwest of the city for many years and are a hale and hearty old couple who have many friends they have made the last 30 years. - per Thirty-Year Supplement to the Oberlin Herald, Thurs., Jun 17, 1909 - via http://www.rootsweb.com/~ksdecatu/History/Supplement/Jacob_Bolin.htm NOTE: There is a picture on the webpage
