a. Note:   Hendrick was baptised in Amsterdam. Holland, Aug. 14, 1633 and he came to America with his parents. He grew to manhood at the homestead on Bridge Street overlooking the East River. Hendrick entered politics before his marriage. He was admitted to the rights of a Great Burgher in New Amsterdam, April 17, 1657, and about this time removed to New Amstel (now New Castle) on the Delaware River where he soon became one of the Council. He engaged in the brewing trade. He was Schepen in 1659. On Sept. 9, 1659 he was a member of the Council of New Amstel. On June 29, 1660, he was appointed one of the Commissiaries there. When the English took possession in 1664, he moved to Midwout (Flatbush), Long Island. He was chosen Overseer of that Town on April 3, 1665, and held the office also in 1666, and until April 1667. He was Churchmaster from 1667 to 1670, and was appointed Inspector, Feb. 25, 1670. He died late 1670 or early 1671. He was referred to as the Captain.
