a. Note:   e fishing rights on the River Eden to keep his boat in and in which to live during the season. The corporation visited their fishery each year and entertained the mayor to a dinner there. the last of these was held in 1892. On the walls of the house are inscriptions set up to record visits of the various mayors. John had moved on from the family fishing business but in a later census, aged 60 I think I have found him living with Jane and a grandson, Robert in the village of Beaumont, just across the river, opposite the old family home King Garth. His occupation then is recorded as "fisherman" In the year that Great Grandad Robert was born he and Jane had moved into Carlisle, living in Gibbons Court, off Scotch St., one of the many "Lanes" in the city. His occupation then is listed as Police Officer
