  In the 1880 census for Effingham County, a Jane White, 29 years of age, widowed, keeping house as well as being the head of the household, and who was born in Illinois and whose mother and father were born in the state of Maryland, was residing with her son Franklin, age 4, in Effingham County. Both Gabriel McKenzie and Nancy Logue were born in Maryland, and Rebecca Jane McKenzie White was born in Illinois. While the son of John White and Jane McKenzie White was named Benjamin Francis, who was born in August of 1875, the name Franklin could easily have been used by the enumerator of that year's census taking. It would appear that John White may have died some time after 1875 but before 1880.
