Notes
a. Note:   Clotilda Linton was born in South Carolina, and married in Florida in 1837. She bought land in Florida according to land records probably with inheritance money. Little is know about her or her family at present. After her husband died in 1875, she was involved in several litigations relating to the estate.
Listed in the 1878/79 city directory as widow of Enoch G. Mays residing at the Mays home place located at 62 Bryan Avenue.
The Dallas Census dated June 7, 1880 lists C. E. Mays, age unreadable, born in South Carolina. She is residing in a house with more than one family. It may be a hotel or boarding house or she may be leasing out rooms in her own home? More study is needed here. Also living with her at the time are D. B Mays, son, age 23, her son, and daughter, Lula Mays age 17. In 1883/84, Clotilda E. Mays, widow, is living on Bryan Street and D. B. Mays continues to broad with her. This is the last time either of them appears in a Dallas directory. This is the last record relating to Clotilda except for court cases she was involved in before her death in 1884.
