Note: N5 He was in the first graduating class of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He taught at MIT for 46 years in the area of mining engineering and metalurgy. He retired in 1914 having been a professor and head of the department of mining engineering and professor of metallurgy. His inventions include a jet aspirator, a prism for stadia surveying, a method for sorting ores. He was active in the American Institute of Mining Engineers and published more that 100 articles.
