Note: Charles was born in Perry Township Fayette County Pennsylvania. He attended Perry Township Schools. In 1917 he was in Wadsworth Ohio where he was an ironworker. He enlisted into the United States Army joining Company G 146 Infantry 37th Division on May 30 1917.He served overseas in Belgium and France receiving a souvenir of shrapnel in the back of the head (newspaper item in M. J. King scrapbook). He was made Corporal April 1918. Discharged April 9 1919. He was a house painter and wallpapered for a living after the war until the start of World War 2 when he went to work for Jones-Laughlin on the Mononghela River hauling supplies to and from the Steel Mill. On retirement the family moved to Harrisburg to be close to family.
