  In the name of God Amen I James Clark of the County of Campbell & Sta te of Virginia being sick & weak but of perfect sense & memory and ca lling to mind the uncertainty of time do hereby constitute and ordain th is to be my last Will & Testament revoking all other Wills by me heretof ore made in manner and form as followeth, to wit.
  Itim it is my will and desire that my Exors hereafter to be nam ed do pay all just debts the one of the greatest magnitude is the o ne to my Honored and aged Father Micajah Clark Senr of ten pounds annual ly so long as he liveth for his support and in lue of property receiv ed by me and my doors to remain open to receive him as one of the fami ly if he choose to come etc. The next to my brother Bowling Clark nine ty three or four Pounds money lent in lue of this debt I give my broth er a boy called Johnson forever.
  The next I stand guardian for three Orphans of Andrew Moorman dec 'd by name James C., Judith C., and Andrew Moorman Jr. So fa ir as it respects James C. the legasee received by me of Jno & Thos M. Cl ark the two Exors of Andrew Moorman dec'd to amount of eighty two poun ds I have paid the said James C. Moorman, the ballc of his legasee n ow yet in the hands of the said Exors which was afsertained by Commifsione rs Jno. Webber and others their return in Campbell office.
  That part received of Judith C. Moorman Legasee of the afforesaid exors am ot to about ninety pounds (the bed and furniture she has in pofsefsio n) in lue thereof as a child next to one of my own I give and leave her t wo negroes by name a girl called Sela & boy called Will when any Pers on applys legally authorised to receive them & give the necefsary dischar ge etc. to her & heirs for ever If not to remain as my estate and the mon ey paid her out of the estate that is due her etc.
  That part received of Andrew Moorman Junr legasee of the afforesa id exors and afspertained as foresaid by the Commifsioners was a negroe g irl called Amy who is since got a boy called John
 and eleven pounds five shillings which was to be in full of his Legas ee as pr receipt to the exors but the ballance of Judith C. Moormans rema ining in the hands of the exors Jno & Thos Clark agreeable to the retu rn of the Coms in Campbell office. Those payments was drawn from Jef se Moorman in Tobacco by an order from the exors John Clark which tobac co is deposited in the hands of Wm Brown Mercht Esq pr Memo unsold tel c aled for by me or my exors etc.
  Next place I stand as guardian for the three orphans of my dec'd broth er Wm Clark by name Jacob, James and Micajah Clark Junr of their Legaci es from the Cheedle family I have received from the
 hands of H. Chiles and Jacob Cheedle one hundred and eleven pounds f ourteen Shillings out of which sum I have lent Jno Watson E. Clark & Jac ob C. Clark the three Mnrs of Wm Clark dec'd, to
 pay debts to the estate (and the ballance of their estates is not in my po fsefsion as it has not been rec'd by me) the sum of one hundred pounds n ine Shillings.
  It is my will and desire that my Exors convey to James C. Moorman that pa rt of the tract bought of Micajah Moorman Junr my nephew lying adjoini ng to the said James C. Moorman between the dividing
 line drawn by John Lynch jr between the two brothers before sold to me a nd a strait line begining at the same sharp corner in Webbers line & runn ing acrofs Pheasant creek & a field of mine in the fork of a branch cal led long field to pointers in Wm Harris's line at a small Pine on a rid ge the quantity & number of acres therein contained bounded by Harris 's lines & those two lines to be afsertained by a plot from Jno Lyn ch Jr and the money at the rate of twenty seven shilling per Acre the sa id James C. is to pay to Wm Brown mercht when my bond becomes d ue in aid of the Tobacco aforesaid & other afsets is & will come in to his hands to pay demands etc the said new line to be the established a nd confirmed line by James C. Moorman and myself to my son Thos. Cla rk as described in the devision laid down in Andrew Moorman Will to ta ke place at his Wife death between Micajah and James C. Moorman his two yo ungest sons & the contract between Micajah James C. Moorman & myself l ately entered into.
  It is my will that my Exors dispose of that or any part of the two trac ts of Land lying in the western Country If the title be good located a nd surveyed by Charles Edds & Lawrence Long each to have one half for the ir services etc. & convey the titles but not to incumber themselves or est ate If disputed title.
  Itim I lend to my beloved wife all my plantations with the Hands etc. the reon to her & the Exors management to afsist in raising my children & Sc hooling etc. & paying my debts. When my eldest
 son by name Thomas Clark arrives to eighteen years of age is to take a b oy called Charles and any hands that he may require or pofsefs and a ny stock & put them etc. upon the cloverfield tract
 adjoining to James C. Moorman and take charge of the hands of my Wife & t he estates and all the stock & to continue to work in common & recei ve in purportion for his hands & a compensation for his services settli ng annually until my youngest son William A. Clark arrives to eighteen y ears old.
  when my second son Micajah Clark arrives to eighteen years of a ge he is to take a boy called Reubin & put him as also any other negro es that he may require or pofsefs & Stock put with the hands of my wi fe & the estates on the Hills creek Tracks of Lands & take charge of t he same settling annually & to receive in purprotion for his hands et c. & a compensation on his services etc. in like manner till William A. C lark becomes of eighteen years old.
  Then all the hands from the two plantation belonging to my wife or the e states to be withdrawn as also the stock and etc. to the mantion house tr acts including all the several tracts adjoining thereto mantion house bo th mills & blacksmith shop remaining in my wife pofsefsion till her dea th with this reserve that James V. Clark my third son & Wm A. Clark the yo ungest is to have one half of the profits of both Mills & the blacksmith s hop earnt by Sam & a boy called Stephen who is to go into the shop i mmediately
 with Sam also the previledge of each my sons working all or any hands th at they may have to take place in the several Instances as to the profi ts etc. found after James V. Clark arrives to eighteen years o ld & to continue until Wm. A Clark arrives to twenty one years old.
  Itim I give & bequeath unto my son Thomas Clark the Clover field tra ct of Land with all its appurtinences when my youngest son William A. Cla rk arrives to the period of Eighteen years old as before stated in t he loan to my beloved wife with a negroe boy called Charles one bed a nd furniture one horse and saddle to him and his heirs forever.
  Itim I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Cheadle Clark t wo negroes by name Charry & Dinah one bed and furniture one horse brid le and saddle two cows & calves half doz plates knives and forks to h er & her heirs forever to take pofsefsion when she marrys or arriv es to eighteen years old.
  Itim I give and bequeath to my son Micajah Clark the hills creek Trac ts of Lands with all its appurtenances when my son Wm A. Clark arriv es to eighteen years old as in the loan with a boy
 called Reubin one bed and furniture one horse saddle and bridle to him a nd his heirs for ever.
  Itim I give and bequeath to my daughter Judith Woodson Clark two negro es called Phillisa & Metilda one bed and furniture one horse saddle and br idle two cows & calves half doz plates knives & forks to her & her he irs forever to take pofsefsion when she marrys or becomes of eighteen yea rs old.
  Itim I give & bequeath to my two youngest sons all the tracts of Land whe reon I now live taking into consideration the value of the whole lan ds houses, mills & every other convenience & Sam &
 Stephen & the black Smith tools to be in their own Right when Wm A. Cla rk arrives to twenty one desk & cupboards one pair of black walnut tabl es two beds & furniture two horses bridles & Saddles waggon & one yo ke of Oxen four cows to be equally divided between James Velasco Cla rk & Wm Anselm Clark each one moiety to them & their heirs forever wi th the reserve of the loan to my wife.
  Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Lucy Fleming Clark two negro es by name Nanny & Caroline one bed and furniture one horse & saddle & br idle two cows & calves half Doz plates knives & forks to her & her he irs forever to take pofsefsion when she marries or arrives to eighte en years of age.
  Itim I give & bequeath unto my youngest daughter Polly Henretta Clark t wo negroes by name Susan & her youngest child Amy one horse brid le & saddle bed & furniture, two cows & calves half doz plates knives & fo rks one black walnut drefsing table one chest when she marrys or arriv es to eighteen years old & her heirs forever.
  I give unto each of my worthy & Bro Bowling Clark, Wm Brown, Jam es C. Moorman & Jacob C. Clark a broad cloth coat as a token of respec t. The ballance of my estate not disposed of to be divided equally a mongst all my children at my beloved wifes death.
  Itim I lastly appoint my loving Brother Bowling Clark my worthy frie nd Wm Brown my two nephews James C. Moorman & Jacob C. Clark my two elde st sons Thomas Clark & Micajah Clark to act when they arrive to eighte en with my beloved wife exors & executrix to this my last will & testamen t. Given under my hand & seal this sixth day of November one thousand ei ght hundred & two. James Clark

 scribed and ordered to be recorded And on the motion of Lucy Clark t he executrix and Bowling Clark and William Brown two of the executo rs in the said will named who made oath thereto according to Law.  ANDREW MOORMAN (1744-1791) [This will, located in Campbell County, Virginia Will Book 1, pages 18 2-184 was transcribed by Linda Sparks Starr OCT 1996 from photocopies of t he 8 � x 13 inch pages made at the Courthouse. When in doubt, _Campbe ll Co. VA Wills 1782-1800_, by TLC was consulted. This transcription is t rue to the original in spelling and the colonial use of "�s" for "ss "; however paragraphing and bold printing of names were added to make th is more readable.]
  In the name of God Amen. Fifth day of March one thousand seven Hundr ed and ninty one I Andrew Moorman of Campbell County being very low of b ody but of perfect mind thanks be to god for the
 same. I do constitute and declair this my last Will and Testament as follo weth viz. Item I desire that my Executors settle & pay all my Just debt s. Item __ lend my beloved wife Judith a part of the lands I now li ve on including the House & buildings from the lower end of sd Tracts ajo ining of Je�se Moorman running up on both sides of the Creek to a lar ge fork thence up the left fork to my back line and then another line fr om the sd fork to a pon_ at the upper end of the plantation continuing t he same course to
 Venables line thence down my South East line until they Intersect with Je� se Moorman so as to include the lower part of sd Lands also three negro es to wit Frank, Susannah & Suck, two horses, one yoak of oxen & cart, o ne bed bedstead & furniture, two Cows & calfs four sows & piggs, two p uter dishes, � doz puter plates, knifes & forks.
 Item I give my daughter Mildred the wife of Thos C. (sic) Clark, t wo young negroes by name Peter & Fanny, a bay mare two cows & calfs o ne bed & furniture, � dozen puter plates knifes & forks for ever n ow in the sd Clarks po�sestion.
 Item I give my son Achilles my tract of Land on ruff Creek, son's n egro boy by name Joe, in case the sd Joe should die before my son sh ould become of Lawfull age or Marry then a boy name Toney, a horse a nd Saddle, two cows & calfs one Bed & furniture, � doz puter plates � d oz knifes & forks for ever. Item
  [p. 183] Item I give unto my two sons Micajah & James the Tract of La nd whereon I now live & the tracts ajoining the same after the dea th of my wife an equal divition made Micajah the upper part & James t he lower part ajoining Je�se Moorman if they be comes of lawfull a ge or marry before the death of my wife they or either of them to take po� sestion in common between them the upper part of sd Lands not lent my wi fe, also I give a young negro of equal vallue of Achiles as above, a hor se & saddle two Cows & calfs, a Bed & furniture � dozen puter plat es � doz knifes & forks unto each of them for ever.
 Item I give unto my daughters by name Elizabeth, Nancy, Lucy, Pa tsy & Judith Clark unto each as much of my Estate as I have giv en to my daughter Mildred as soon as they may become of age or either m ay marry -- In case my beloved wife should prove with child as I belie ve she is, if a son I give him a tract of Land called Carvers & an ent ry called Poes, a young negro of equal vallue with his other brother s, a horse & saddle two cows & calfs, a bed & furniture � doz puter plat es � doz knifes & forks, if a Daughter to be made equal with the rest of i ts sisters out of my Estate.
 Item if either of my said Children should die before they beco me of lawfull age or marry their parts of the Estate shall be equally divi ded among the survivors. Item its my desire that my Estate shall be ke pt as much together as po�sible in order to enable my executors to p ay of the above legasies & to rase the children etc. in case my wife sh ould have a daughter those two tracts of Land, as above called Carve rs and Poes to be sold and the money applyed in aid in discharging the a bove Legacies etc.
 Also it's my desire at the death of my wife that there shall be an equ al divition of the hole of my Estate and disposed of amongst ea ch of my children to them and their Heirs forever.

 The within last Will and Testament of Andrew Moorman Deceas ed was proved by the oaths of George Cabell and James Clark and by the sol omn affirmation of Je�se Moorman witne�ses thereto
 subscribed and ordered to be Recorded. And on the motion of John Clark S r. and Thomas M. Clark two of the Executors in the said will ordered w ho made oath thereto according to Law, certificate is granted them for ob taining probate thereof in due form giving Security where upon they toget her with James Clark, William Henderson and William Moorman their securi ties entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of two Thou sand pounds conditioned as the Law directs for the said Executors due a nd faith full administration of the said Decedents Estate and performan ce of his Will. Liberty being reserved the other Executors in the sa id will named to join in the probate thereof when they shall

 In obedience to an order from the worshipfull court of campbell to us di rected we have proceed on the 20th day of December 17 ninety eight a nd the Estate of Andrew Moorman Decd being produced
 by the Exors it not being in our power to allot the negroes agreeable to t he will have directed the Estate to be sold and the several legate es to be Paid in money to each as followeth. To James C. Moorman one h undred and Ten Pounds ten shillings. To Nancy Moorman one hundred a nd twenty-two pounds ten shillings. To Patsy Moorman one hundred and twen ty two pounds Ten shillings.
