Notes
a. Note:   At the time of James Albert Kellogg's death there was an article in the newspaper from Willard Ohio (probably the Willatd Times) which said "J. A. KELLOGG DIES IN CLEVELAND Former Resident of Willard Passes away after only Three Weeks Illness."
" Friends of J.A. Kellogg here received the sad message announcing his death in Cleveland Saturday. Deceased was about 70 years of age.
For many years he was a resident of Willard, and while here conducted a meat market. He began business here in 1878. In 1884 he and A.C. Griffin formed a partnership which continued until the year 1903.
Mr. Kellogg then conducted the business alone for a while, and sold out later and moved to Cleveland.
He is survived by his wife, one son Will Kellogg, and one daughter Eva, all of whom live in Cleveland.
Funeral services will be held at his late home, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. At the time the message came announcing his death, it had not been decided whether burial will be made in Cleveland or at Republic, Ohio."
According to the 1850 Census James Albert was born in Ridgefield township, Huron County. James Kellogg's farm was listed in Eldredge township in 1820 and 1830, so either he changed farms, or the townships changed. ( I have printed out a plat map from 1845 of the Kellogg property which was in section 4 of the township of Ridgefield. Kellogg is 50 acres in the 8th part of section 4) (I found a map of Ridgefield Township and also of Greenfield township later on the topo map site on the WEB, or else on WARDMAP site)
In the 1860 census I found James and Rebecca and James and Marian (sp.) in Republic town in the township of Scipio in Seneca County. (P. 391 (Img 36 of 47 in Ancestry.com census files).
I found James Kellog (indexed as Jas Kellog for 1870 census, but then listed on the Ancestry index as James Kellogg--two of them, father & son) in the 1870 census for Ohio, Seneca, Republic (1870 Census M593_1266, p. 255, Image 512, Img. 3 of 9 Ancestry.com site) James is a farm laborer, age 74, Rebecca is 48, Mary is 24, James is 22. James Albert is also listed as Albert, age 22, farm laborer working for William Anway, age 24, Farmer in the town of Republic, township of Scipio (M593_1266, p. 250, Image 501, Img 4 of 9 Ancestry.com site), Lucinda, the wife is age 28, children are Emma 12, Katie 9, William 8, and Laura 5. W. Anway has a farm worth $7,000.
I also found James Albert and Olive Mackey in the June 1880 census for Ohio, Huron County, town of Chicago Junction (Willard), township of New Haven, p. 127B. (Name spelled James Kellog in the index on the LDS site) James is 32, occupation Butcher. Ollie is 21. Also in the household are Rebecca Kellogg, age 60 (i.e. 58), boarder (really, mother!), dressmaker, and Kate Bearself, age 25, boarder, milliner. (Ollie and James were only married on May 20, 1880) The family Bible says James Kellogg (father James) died in 1886, but he is not in this census and Rebecca's listing does say she is a widow. So I guess she, Rebecca, made an error in the Bible because James must have died before 1880, perhaps in 1876? (See above for James Albert Obit, which gives the impression that James Kellogg, father, may have been buried in Republic, or else why would James Albert maybe be buried there!) In the 1900 census James & Ollie are still in Chicago Junction, township of New Haven, Huron County. James Albert gives his birth date as Jan 1849 (really 1848), occupation Butcher. Ollie's birth date is given as May, 1859. Willam E. is Dec. 1882, occupation In school. Eva is listed as born in June of 1889, age 11. (1900 census Ohio, Huron, New Haven, Chicago Junction, Roll T623_1288, ED27, p. 4B) In 1910 the family is in Cleveland living in the 25th Ward. James Albert is listed as age 58 with his Own Income as occupation. Ollie is age 50, and Eva is age 21, neither with an occupation. Will Earl is not in the household, nor could I locate him in the census. (1910 census Cuyahoga, Cleveland, WD 25, T624_1176, pt. 1, p. 23B) In 1920 I have geven Eva's and William's listing under their names.
From what Will Earl Kellogg told us (Eva and Mary) we sort of know that James Albert was a Christian Science Practioneer at some point in Cleveland. We have no knowledge of any other occupation or work that he did while residing in Cleveland from after 1903 until his death from Influenza in 1918.
We do know that James Albert and Olive were both Christian Scientists, though earlier, before they became Christian Scientists, I think they may have been Presbyterians.
 May 2003. I found a reference for Deaths in Ohio between 1900-1922, so I checked it: James Albert d. 2/17/1918, Certificate # 8691, Vol. # 2500, Cuyahoga County: Ollie Kellogg d. 9/19/1918, Certificate # 53060, Vol. #2678, Cuyahoga Co..
