Although he is th efirst whom we can trace it is apparent from the records that his ancestor shad been in possession of the Manor of Orrell (from which he derived his name )since before the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. It is probable from the situation of the Manor and the history of the District, that his ancestor was one of the Norse Invaders who settled that part of Lancashire in th etenth century. This makes your ancestry is pure English, although there have been Orrells who have owned land in France at a later date, though only b yconquest during the Hundred years war.
