Note:   * Mickens is thought to be buried in Peal's Chapel in Trigg County, KY. although there is no tombstone there for him, Bertie Gingles was firm in her knowledge that this is his final resting place. There is a government tombstone for Mickens in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Trigg County, KY, but Bertie said the government put one there even though Mickens was not buried there. She said there are several situations like this where a person is buried in one cemetery, but the government has put up a tombstone for them in another cemetery altogether. (from Cunningham Family, Leaves from the Family Tree, by Marqua Duncan, 2002)
  * Service Record * CSA (Confederate States of America) - enlisted on 9/14/1861 at Camp Burnett, Tennessee, and then on 12/14/1862 he transferred to Company G, 4th Regiment, KY Infantry - he fought at Baton Rouge, Murfreesboro, Jackson, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, Rocky Face Gap, and Resaca - wounded on 5/14/1864 at Resaca, then fought at Dallas, Atlanta, was in the Battles at Peachtree Entrenchment and Utoy Creek, both days at Jonesboro and in all the mounted engagements. He was listed as M. C. Cunningham, Sr., on all his Army papers and also on his government tombstone at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery; the reason is there were two Mickens Carr Cunninghams in the CSA (Confederate States of America), so the Army used Sr. and Jr. to differentiate between the two men - this Mickens was the older of the two - and they were related.
