Note:   The Hawley Record, compiled and published by Elias Sill Hawley, 1890 Genealogical Note 1, page 429 The blank space was left on page 2 of the table work of this book, No 1, for two reasons: First, an inventory of Samuel Haule of Charlestown, Mass, dated in 1637, had been obtained, and as the date was early enough, it was thought this man might be the father of the first family of Hawleys in Roxbury, particularly since the spelling of Haule for Hawley had been found.
  The second reason was that, being in correspondence with several Hawley families of Derbyshire, England, it was strongly hoped that the father's name and the emigration of the whole family might be obtained through them. This hope has not been realized, although some information as to the existence of the family name from the date of the emigration to the present time, in that county, has been obtained, as may be seen in the account of the English Family in the first part of this book.
