Note: logica Register and Map of the Town" by Frank Burnside Kingsbury: "Elijah Wheelock, parentage unknown, came from Alstead to Surry; was taxed 1809; kept tavern that year and removed from here after a year or two. He married Anna _____, born about 1780; died Surry a widow August 7, 1856; buried Surry; lived at No 122 and is remembered as 'the little old lady Wheelock.' She was also called Ann." Parents: It is likely, but not proven, that Elijah is the son of Phinehas Wheelock. This is supported by 1790 census of Cheshire County showing two males under 16 years of age (born after 1774) residing in the household of Phinehas. The only documented son of Phinehas born after 1774 was Phinehas, Jr. (1781). Therefore, it is possible that the second male in the census is Elijah who was born in 1777/78. Also, Elijah named his eldest son Phinehas, possibly after his father as was the practice in the 18th century. If indeed Elijah is the son of Phinehas Wheelock, this Wheelock genealogy is traceable directly to Reverand Ralph Wheelock who arrived from England in 1637 and settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
