I have no particular reason to include Lena Carpenter as a daughter of Patience Gardner. She just appears in a census with the family. So I am lumping her in as if she were a daughter, and got the last name Carpenter by marriage. There is no reason to suspect she is related at all except for that census entry, and the fact that the "occupation" column of that census was left blank, whereas one may presume that were she hired help, her occupation would have been listed.
It is also possible that she is related somehow, but in a way different than arranged here. I am arranging it here this way just for parsimony reasons.
