He was creamated and his ashes are buried in the Mennonite Church cemetery in Stephensville, Ont., in the family plot.
Quoted from a letter by his brother, Earl, to Ralph's children: "I take this opportunity to remind you what a great dad you had. He helped me financially while I was struggling to get through Harvard, and, as my wedding gift, forgave the whole debt of $700, a very substantial sun at that time. He took care of our mother, at some inconvenience to himself and to your mother. We are grateful. He performed well as "older brother" when we had no dad--serving for quite a long time as postmaster of the town of Fort Erie, among other things. Then, of course, there were his numerous activities during his lifetime being very active in the church and other community affairs. He made his mark in the world and will be remembered." _MDCL: CONC tumor. He took medication for thyroid and high blood pressure.
