Jon Saunders  - Dec 14, 2008 'The Milton and Milton Junction Courier', Milton Junction, Wisconsin, Thursday, Oct. 7, 1954, p 3. Funeral services for Earl Birk Newton, who died on his 91st birthday Sept. 23, in his home on route 2, Fort Atkinson, were held Sept. 25 in the Hayes funeral home, Fort Atkinson, with the Rev. Charles M, Brown, First Congregational church, officiating. Burial was in the North Johnstown cemetery. The son of Harrison and Marion Simmons Newton, he was born Sept. 23, 1853, at Johnstown Center. He was married to Gertrude E. Marquart on Jan. 31, 1887 in Evansville. They lived at Koshkonong Station and at Fort Atkinson rt. 2, almost 60 years. She died Aug. 23, 1947. He was affiliated with First Congregational church. Survivors are four sons, Harry and Pearl of Rockford, Jay of Madison and Thurlow at home; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
