Carl R. Newton, a resident of Milton Junction since 1920, died last Friday in Mercy hospital, Janesville, after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Milton Junction Methodist church, Rev. T. C. Nagler officiating. A male quartet sang two selections. Burial was in North Johnstown cemetery. Pall bears were nephews, H. B. Newton, R. E. Marquart, P. G. Winch and E. C. Marquart. Out of town people what attended were Mr. and Mrs. Carr Marquart, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Newton and Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Newton, Rockford; Miss Rosalia Marquart, Bradford, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Newton and daughter, Janet, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Burt Simmons and Mr. Hansen, Pewaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Rush Killam, Waupun; Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Newton, Fort Atkinson; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cook, E. A. Wilcox, Miss Mae Wilcox, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Sprackling, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Fuder, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bevens, Janesville; James Godfrey and Robert Godfrey, Whitewater. Mr. Newton was born Jan. 22, 1859, on the farm in Johnstown which was his home for 60 years. On Dec. 8, 1887, he married Miss Eva I. Marquart and they celebrated their golden anniversary in 1937 at their home on Vernal avenue. Survivors are his wife; a son Clarence, two grandchildren, Kenneth and Bernice of Johnstown; and one brother, Earl Newton, Fort Atkinson.
