Notes
a. Note:   My Dad (Jesse C. Turner) the son of Francis Marion Turner, told me the story of Francis Marion walking home from the Civil War. he was discharged at Dalton, Georgia, he another man with one mule, walked from Dalton, Ga. to Mossy Head, they would take turns riding the mule. Fred B. Turner Jr. has the muzzle loading rifle that Francis Marion used and brought home from the Civil War
When Francis Marion Turner died, July 4, 1926. I (Fred B. Turner) was 5 years old, I can remember going to the Crowder Chapel Cemetery and being in the car (Ford Model T.)following "Uncle Ell's: car and the taq was loose, one bolt missing and the tag was swinging back and forth, and I was afraid it would fall off and be lost. and I recall, seeing the casket being lowered into the ground, and the first fesw shovels of dirt being thrown in and falling on top of the box holding the casket, and what a dull slounding thud it made.( I am now 83 years old) that was 78 years ago, and just last year, his grave had caved in, and I had a new vault top, for a slab installed,. and the grave filled in.
About 5 or 6 years ago I had the litle wooden "Grave house" over Gabriella's grave rebuilt and restored, it was then over 100 years old, now its rebuilt of solid cypress. she was GrandPa's grandmother. At the same time I had water lines installed from the pump out to these grave sites, with two or three other outlets.. I have really appreciated having that water available because I have cleaned all those family graves with a pressure washer two orf three times, they were almost black with mold and clay dust. Niow they are clean and bright. I oftren wonder who will do these things when I am gone, for I'm the last one left, unless Fred Jr. does it or has it done.
